Why this program?
Good news:
Business world has already some remarkable and concrete achievements in the area of diversity. But without ensuring inclusion, diversity may prove to be a recipe for disaster.
What’s the issue?
Unfortunately, anthropological, historical, and cultural context, together with our current education and other socio-economic systems (and for a variety of reasons) do not support, and actually undermine our efforts in the area of inclusion.
So what to do?
Work force, and especially the decision makers in corporate world should be given the opportunity to
- raise (self-)awareness on that topic ,
- reflect on their own thinking patterns and attitude around inclusion,
- learn about how unconscious bias, implicit associations, exclusions, and privileges (not only born into but also acquired) undermine their efforts towards inclusion
- conduct a self-evaluation of the state of inclusion culture in their own institutions by using an inclusion barometer survey, and
- develop strategies and action plans to increase their “inclusion capacity” at individual, team and institutional level.
If not?
Will be a huge waste of resources as most of the achievements in the area of diversity will be in vain. There will be obstacles not only to attracting and retaining talents, but also to an efficient use of workforce. We may face difficulties in investor relations, and even in having access to preferential funding opportunities as we can fail to secure successful ratings and reviews with the framework of ESG and UN Development goals that may even result in potential reputational damage.
